Ali and Nino

The novel, which takes place in Baku during the chaotic atmosphere of Azerbaijan's war of independence during World War I and the Russian Revolution, is shaped around the memories and events experienced by the novel's protagonist, Ali Khan Shirvanshir.[6] Ali Khan Shirvanshir is the son of a noble Muslim family. He is in love with Nino, the daughter of a noble family who was raised with Russian discipline, educated, raised in Christian tradition and adopted the European lifestyle. In Baku, where it is a matter of debate whether it is in Asia or Europe, Ali Khan's decision is to be "Asian". Nino Kipiani, on the contrary, has a European sensibility. The two young people struggle to keep their love alive.
